English Comb Back Carver Windsor Chair by Colin Foxhall.
This chair is made of Cornish Beech components with an English Elm seat. The finish is stained, with shellac and wax.
The Comb Back style of Windsor chair is very traditional, as used to be made in their thousands in the South of England. The curved top rail, known as the comb for fairly obvious reasons is sawn out of solid timber, and this chair contains no steam bent parts.
Note the well defined shaping of the seat saddle in this hand made chair. In cheaper mass produced chairs this shape is usually very shallow and poorly defined.
