An Oak Continuous Arm Windsor Chair
by Colin
Foxhall.
This chair is made of local Oak components with an
English Burr Oak seat. The finish is oiled and waxed to
show the natural colours of the wood to best effect. It
is relatively unusual to use Oak for the seat of a
Windsor chair, but with modern techniques it is possible
to sculpt the seat shape in the fully seasoned (and very
hard!) wood. You can see the burr on the front corner of
the seat.
The continuous arm is one piece of wood steam bent to
form a three dimensional curve. It produces a very
comfortable and stylish chair.
Dining chairs without arms are also available to match
this style.
Colin Foxhall's workshop is near Tavistock, Devon, UK.
