Bespoke Quarter sawn Oak coffee table
by Furgus
Parsons.
This table features "through mortice and tenon"
joints with dark wood locking wedges.
"Quarter sawn" refers to the way the timber
is sawn out of the log at the sawmill. Planks which run
radially from the centre to the outside of the log are
called quarter sawn, and in these boards the silvery
patterns known as medullar rays are show to their best
effect, especially in Oak.
This table also has a magazine shelf underneath.
This closeup of the Quarter sawn Oak coffee
table shows the "through mortice and tenon"
joints and the dark wood locking wedges which hold the
table tightly together. The beautiful pattern of the
medullar rays can also be seen.
