Rustic Oak table with "cleat
board" top heavily made from second grade Oak
timber, including knots and waney edges by Furgus Parsons.
The design shows "through mortice and tenon joints"
with locking dowels and wedges.
"Waney edges" are the irregular edges of a
plank just under the bark, and these can be seen on the
stretcher rail, running lengthwise under the table.
The top of this rustic Oak Kitchen table is of "cleat
board" design and is made up of boards running the
length of the top which are in turn jointed to a board at
each end holding all together. This is the Cleat board.
This detail of the rustic Oak table shows
both the tenons of the stretchers passing right through
the legs, and the dowels and wedges which hold the table
tightly together. The cleat board is also fixed to the
boards of the table top by dowels.
